This event marked the launch of our hygiene packs featuring our Pad-A-Girl and Build-A-Boy programs across two regions: New York, Indiana in the United States, and Kaduna State Nigeria.
In Indianapolis, Indiana, Diaconia assembled 50 boxes to distribute to attendees and the homeless to address necessary hygiene needs. The boxes include, but are not limited to, a two-month supply of sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, chapsticks, tissues, sanitizers, soap, shampoo, emergency blankets, socks, first aid kits, and body spray.
Our goal is to make these supplies available regularly to foster homes and homeless shelters. A special thank you to our partners and donors for making this possible.
Nigeria
The Diaconia Global Team reached out to children and youth in Kargi Chukan Local Government, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The team was excited about this project as it provided an opportunity for interactive sessions with the community. It was heartbreaking to witness the challenges facing young girls living in poverty today, many of whom have to use tissues and rags during their cycles. To address these issues, the team distributed free sanitary pads, deodorants, hair combs, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to promote personal hygiene among the girls. The boys were also included in this initiative, where they learned about personal hygiene and neatness and received items such as singlets, boxers, hairbrushes, deodorants, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
On the same day, the team extended their outreach to younger children in the community. Given that December is typically cold in this region and many children lacked proper clothing, the team provided warm clothing, socks, and antiseptic soap to help them stay warm and prevent illness.
