The Diaconia global team connected with teenagers in Kargi, Chukun Local Government, Kaduna State, Nigeria. We were really inspired by this project, as it allowed us to have meaningful conversations with the young people in our community. It was tough to see many girls in this generation relying on tissues and rags during their menstrual cycles, so we took action. Our team decided to hand out free sanitary pads, deodorants, hair combs, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to help them maintain their personal hygiene. We didn’t forget about the boys, either; we talked with them about the importance of personal hygiene and looking presentable, giving them items like singlets, boxers, hair brushes, deodorants, and toothbrushes with toothpaste. During this event, we also reached out to younger children in the community. With the colder weather of harmattan upon us, some of them were without proper clothing. We provided them with warm clothes, soaps, and antiseptic soap to help with their dry and cracking skin from the harsh dust exposure.
